Five Jazz Masterpieces : Late 1950's

1950's was golden age of Jazz or can be called traditional or 'Be-Bob' Jazz age. Because, Ornette Coleman released 'Free Jazz' at the 1961 year. And already Miles Davis released 'Kind of Blue' which has got more loose chord progress for more free play at the 1959 year.

Free Jazz player and Miles Davis group were main stream of 1960's Jazz. But, Free Jazz is avant-garde music. and many people like traditional music much more still.

Especially, There are many masterpieces at late 1950's because traditional jazz music had run to the climax.

In this late 1950's, generally we can say several best Jazz players with their best albums.

Tenor Saxophone : Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus (1956)
Alto Saxophone : Cannonball Adderley {1975} -Know What I Mean? (1961)
Piano : Bill Evans {1980} - Waltz for Debby (1961)
Guitar : Wes Montgomery {1968} - The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery (1960)

Bill Evans(p) played at the 'Know What I Mean? (1961)' of Cannonball Adderley(as).
And They both played at the historical masterpiece 'Kind of Blue(1959)' of Miles Davis too.

Another best tenor saxophonist John Coltrane(ts)  was regular member of Miles Davis group from 1955 to 1959. John Coltrane {1967} who the best tenor player in Jazz history turn to 'Free Jazz' after leave Miles Davis group.

Generally people say Sonny Rollins(ts) played best Be-Bob technically at the 'Saxophone Colossus(1956)' already. Then, Miles Davis Albums and then here masterpieces. That's all about Jazz?

Well.. Maybe, But, There are other great players and albums in this 1950's age. For example, I like 'Stan Gets' who one of great tenor saxophonist in Jazz History.
